Braunschweiger Schloss (The Brunswick Castle)

The Braunschweiger Schloss was first built in 1718 by Hermann Korbs.  Previously this spot was occupied by a monastery, which was then moved out to Riddagshausen.

It was burned down in 1830 during the Braunschweig Rebellion.
It was rebuilt in 1855.  This is how the building looked until the beginning of the second world war.  It was then decorated with national emblems and used by the Nazis as a school for SS Officers.  Unfortunately the schloss was severely damaged during the war.
It was torn down in 1960. and turned into a city park.  In the early nineties they decided to rebuild it.

And this is how it looks today!
BUT, they built it as a shopping mall!!
It's kind of an ironic commentary on society.  Now the castle, which once housed monarchs shows what really rules our society - CAPITALISM.
