Nikolausfest

Last night was the Nikolausfest at the Neue Oberschule.  Every year, the students sell hand-made gifts and Christmas decorations to raise money for their class funds.  Examples of stuff they sold: ornaments, cookies, candles, books, waffles, candy, etc.

I bought some cookies, an ornament, a wine bottle that was paper maché-ed to be a light, a book, and a snowman.  They were also lots of performances by different class groups.

Here's a short video of one of the groups - mostly 6th graders trying to rap. ;o)

Their song was called "No Fear to Funk"

After the concert, we went over to Gesa's to make/drink a Feuerzangenbowle.  This is a tradition German Christmas drink similar to Glühwein.  The hot punch is kept warm over a burner and a cone of sugar is placed on a metal rack across the bowl.  You pour some rum onto the sugar cone and then light it on fire.  The alcohol burns, the sugar melts into the punch, and you enjoy the show!
