While I was gone to Oslo over the weekend, everyone else in Germany was celebrating Karneval. Karneval constitues the last days before the period of Lent begins. Since no rich food and drink are supposed to be consumed during this period, somebody decided that there should be a massive party to get rid of it all right before Lent begins. Karneval in Germany is usually celebrated with parades and costumes (kind of like Halloween) and the biggest parade here is in Köln. Braunschweig had its own parade while I was gone, and the Neue Oberschule had a party for the younger students tonight. I went to see what kind of costumes the children were wearing and wasn't disappointed!
