Whirlwind

It seems like the time I have left in Germany is vanishing faster and faster each day!  My parents departed for Atlanta this morning, and I wanted to share some birthday memories with everyone.  I turned 23 on Sunday, and turning 23 seems kind of boring, since it's not one of the "big" birthdays and is kind of in the middle.  But my birthday was anything but boring.  It actually seemed like all I did was eat.

My parents and I were leaving my apartment to go to church Sunday morning, and we noticed that my wonderful landlady had made me a cake and had left it outside my door!  We went to church, where I was serenaded by everyone (German happy birthday songs are better than American ones) and then Randy and Katy had us over for lunch (German Wedding Soup, white asparagus with hollandaise sauce, black forest ham, roasted potatoes, and fruit salad for dessert).  After a short break, my landlady also cooked for us (roasted salmon with cheese/cream sauce, rice, and fruit salad with vanilla sauce for dessert).  Needless to say, we were stuffed!!  We took a walk around the neighborhood to help work it off.

Monday, mom and dad came to class with me, which was pretty funny.  All the students were so excited to meet more Americans and were actually really well-behaved!  My sixth graders even gave them hand-made cards welcoming them to our school!
