I got up at six this morning, having prepared a lesson for a 12th grade class that begins at 7:50. Well, when me and Mr. Brasche got there, instead of 22 students, we had 8. Apparently there are big tests that take 4 hours to complete that almost every student has to do this week. Bonus: We got to watch the Leonardo DeCaprio Romeo and Juliet movie instead! After that I came back to my apartment and cleaned up a little, did dishes, and had lunch in the Mensa.
In the afternoon, I visited an 8th grade class with another teacher named Petra. We did the usual asking questions about America thing and then talked about homecoming in American high schools. There is nothing comparable to this in German culture so it was neat to explain Spirit Week, Pep Rallies, Football, and Homecoming Court to them. Funny Thing: When one student was reading aloud, he read out "pee eating contest"instead of "pie eating contest." Petra and I died laughing.
After that, some of the teachers got together to play volleyball. They may look older than me, but they left me in their dust. I think volleyball is played quite often here, because they all knew all the rules, exactly where to stand and rotate, and kept explaining things to me very slowly, lol. My team never won, though, and I think my arms are going to have bruises on them.
One of my coworkers/friends Andreas conducts the wind ensemble of the local university, which just happened to be playing in the cafeteria tonight. Martin (another fellow teacher/friend) and I went to hear them play. IT WAS AWESOME. They won my heart when they played the "I Will Follow Him" song from the movie Sister Act. They also played a John Williams melody, including Star Wars and Jaws, The Bare Necessities, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Tequila!
Now it's time to pack, because I'm off to Paris for the weekend tomorrow. I am meeting a few friends who are currently studying abroad in London and we're gonna see the sights!
