Official Welcome in Braunschweig

I don't know why they waited this long to welcome us in Braunschweig, but nevertheless, today was our official welcome as foreign language assistants by the school district.  The language assistants from Braunschweig were there as well as some from nearby cities.  There were 11 from Great Britain, 3 from France, 2 from Spain, 2 from America, and 1 from Italy.  They, of course, assist with classes in their native language.  After introductions, they told us helpful tips for the classroom and we acted out a few scenarios of them as well.

Funny things that happened at the meeting:

  • the Italian student asked me if I was from Russia.  No.  Do you have ancestors from Russia?  No.  Well, you look very Russian.  Thanks??
  • French student: Don't you drink hedgehogs at Christmas?  No, we drink EGGNOG. A Hedgehog is an animal.
After lunch they took us on a tour of Braunschweig in a historic trolley.  Unfortunately for everyone not already living in Braunschweig, the tour was kinda dumb.  You could only see things that the trolley traveled by, and a lot of the amazing sites in Braunschweig are in the pedestrian zones in the middle of the city.  The second downside - it started sleeting and the car fogged up so that we couldn't see anything at all.

We tried to make the best of it.
